Improvers/Success Stories  


Below are a list of horses that Simon is proud to have trained and improved for their owners, from only a small string of around a dozen horses:

   
Chord Chord previously in training with Donald McCain and had completely given up the ghost  after being tailed off in a selling hurdle. With us he won first time out over fences putting in a foot perfect round of jumping at the tricky Plumpton racecourse.

Red Not Blue Previously two years in training with Donald McCain without a run.  The owner was advised to retire him as he had too many problems.  To date with us he has had 10 runs; 5 wins and 4 times in the money.  He broke the track record at Southwell.  Red Not Blue runs without shoes and has improved to date 2 ½ stone with us.

Cap Classique Previously in training with Mark Johnston and reportedly was too difficult to train.  3 runs for Simon, 1 win; 1 fourth.
   
City Poser Bought in Ireland for  £6,000. Improved from previous trainer by 1 stone 12 pounds and broke the track record at Warwick.  15 runs - 1 win and 6 places. 
   
Cloudy Sky Came from Sir Micheal Stoute for 3,000gns, having spent a  long time off with problems, he ran well under top weight on the flat first time, and then made all and bolted up first time over hurdles under Ruby Walsh. Sadly he had an accident afterwards.
   
Cyril Henry 25 runs for Simon - 2 wins and 10 times in the first 4.  Improved 20lbs from previous trainer.
   
Dextra Dove Improved 1 stone 8 pounds after arriving from Robert Alners. He won the Grade 2 Agfa Diamond Chase at Sandown and became a leading fancy for The Grand National.  Ran 45 times,  won 19, placed 19 and out of the money only 7 times.
   
Kavi Came from Patrick Haslam and improved 2 stone 2 pounds on the flat and 1 ½ stones over jumps. He was bought out of a selling hurdle and he won on the flat, over hurdles and fences.  25 runs with Simon – 11 times he was in the first three and won three.  Twice he won at 50-1! Kavi ran without shoes.

Heavenly Pleasure Moderate form from 2 previous trainers. Won at Towcester at 66-1 (owner backed!).
   
Monticelli Came from Philip Hobbs and won first time out for us improving 10 pounds on all previous form.
   
Mr Snaggle Bought for £6,000. Ran 39 times; 5 wins and 19 places.  Improved 3 stone 4 pounds from previous trainer.
   
Saucy Night Tailed off in all runs before being trained by Simon and improved 2 ½ stone from previous trainer.   22 runs; won 4 and in the first four 14 times.  According to Timeform ratings, the most improved horse in training in one season.  Saucy ran without shoes.
   
Shady Deal A sprinter on the flat bought for 900gns and poor runs previously.  14 runs for Simon; 1 win & 7 times in the first three.  Improved 1 stone 9 pounds from previous trainer.
   
Tanzanite Dawn She won her first two races for Simon, then came fourth  out of 3 runs.  Improved
2 stone 4 pounds from previous trainer.

Tihui Two Considered un-trainable as too difficult.  2 runs for Simon, 2nd first time out and should have won; made all on her second run and won by 14 lengths.
